Layover Life: Colombo, Sri Lanka

This week I got to spend 24 hours in the largest city of Sri Lanka- Colombo! There are so many things to do here, but I spent my time soaking up the sun and trying some local eats.

The hotel Emirates staff are provided with has a pretty attractive pool. After a morning run, it was the perfect place to grab a drink and relax. Being a flight attendant is hard work, so I try to chill as much as I can when I find the time. This also entails catching up on some sleep and ordering room service too!

Relaxing by the pool- drink in hand, of course!

Following a late afternoon nap, some fellow crew and I ventured to Negombo and grabbed some food at King Coconut on the beach. It was recommended to us by the hotel staff, so we thought we’d give it a try. The restaurant is known for it’s delicious seafood and the crew who ordered it weren’t disappointed. (I’m not a fan of seafood, so I settled on a subpar chop suey dish).

If you go, I recommend heading to the restaurant around 5:30pm. The service is really slow, but you’ll catch the sunset which makes up for it.

Being a popular tourist destination, there isn’t enough time in one layover to do everything there is to do in the city. My regret? Not venturing into the downtown core. The crew hotel is by the airport, so it’s quite the trek to get anywhere. Although I did leave our resort, I don’t feel that I had enough time to really experience the island and what it has to offer.

Hopefully I will be able to come back soon!
