Eat, sleep, fly, repeat. The life of a flight attendant doesn’t seem to get much simpler than that! With days off often few and far between, it can be a challenge to break this cycle and to treat yourself every once in a while. In an attempt to beat this lethal routine, my friend Chandee and I recently embarked on a staycation at the Fairmont Fujairah.
Located no more than an hour and a half outside of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, nestled in the Al Hajar mountains along the coastal region of Dibba, Fairmont Fujairah gives guests the chance to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and discover a destination filled with natural beauty- one that combines pure relaxation with fine art, pristine excellence and adventure!
We were treated to a Deluxe Room facing the Gulf of Oman, complete with an al fresco terrace. It was ideal for enjoying a morning cup of tea and watching the ocean flow endlessly into horizon. Each of the 181 suites feature either a tranquil marina or ocean view similar to ours, with the resort itself resting against a dramatic backdrop of mountainous terrain. The modern bohemian art-deco infused design of the room laced with arabesque touches, gave the space a sophisticated cultural feel. The warm hospitality of the staff also made us feel incredibly welcomed. They even surprised us with a treat in celebration of Chandee’s birthday!
Our first stop after settling in was “MediterrAsian” restaurant, Lava Dining. Here, guests can enjoy a lavish selection of meats, local seafood, and a wide variety of salads and sushi. It is the central culinary hub within Lava Beach Club- the UAE’s premier beach getaway destination. It boasts a free-form swimming pool, six ‘in pool’ Jacuzzis, a sunken pool bar, a raised DJ booth, amphitheatre-style sun-loungers, a kids’ pool with splash pad water play, an outdoor shisha terrace, a beautiful stretch of beach and five private day chalets. From here, we were taken on a quick tour of the resort.
Rich in both beauty and history, Fairmont Fujairah offers a wide range of recreational activities including hiking, water sports and fun aquatic adventures that enable guests to capture the true cultural essence of the northern Emirates. Guests can also indulge in the luxurious spa offerings, keep active at the fitness facility, relax by the pool or catch some rays along the sandy private beach.
After our tour, we made our way to Iammai pool, one of my favourite places at the resort. Framed against a breathtaking backdrop of mountains and the wide blue Indian ocean, this serene paradise is an Instagrammer’s dream. Its deep blue pattern resting against the picturesque landscape makes it is a sight to be seen, and with the pool lounge serving light bites throughout the day and into the night, it makes for a great place to watch the sunset.
From the comfort of our lounge chairs, we made our way to Arena Sports Bar and Kitchen for dinner. There are five restaurants to choose from at Fairmont Fujairah, but the Canadian in me couldn’t pass up the bar-themed eats! Between the loaded greek fries, juicy grills and freshly baked churros, it felt as though I was enjoying a small taste of home here in the Gulf. Modelled after European-style bistros of yesteryear, the venue is composed of two separate spaces; a high energy dining room and a dedicated high bar. Each contain digital screens to ensure sports fan never miss a second of the action!
For those who prefer a more elegant setting, The Copper Lobster is another option that offers diners a daily fresh catch menu. Guests who have a more international taste are encouraged to discover Canvas; an all-day-dining restaurant with dishes that represent the flavours of the region and beyond. Lastly, for the afternoon tea drinker (or social media maven), Arteasan is yet another gorgeous place to unwind. Whether you want to sip on their savoury flavours or just simply snap that perfect Instagram shot, this gallery-style space contains beautifully framed archways and marble inlays guaranteed to satisfy your need for an afternoon of leisure. Although our stay at the resort was short, the experience we had was sweet. Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway, a wellness retreat or the ultimate Arabian adventure, the Fairmont Fujairah is worth exploring.
