Yes Russia is cold, but so is Canada! Eventually you learn to embrace it. That’s what I did last week when I went to Moscow, Russia. A lot of crew opted to stay in the hotel, but myself and three other ladies decided to take on the town. Our first stop? The Red Square!
The Red Square is a plaza that was originally meant to serve as a marketplace. Its name was derived from the colour of the bricks used to construct the surrounding buildings. Sites to see here include: Saint Basil’s Cathedral, the State Historical Museum, the Kremlin, Lenin’s Mausoleum, the Kazan Cathedral and the Glavnyi Universalnyi Magazin (GUM department store).
The Kremlin and Red square were recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1990 because of their ties to Russian history. It was really cool to see such historic buildings up close!
From here, we headed back towards our hotel and had dinner with some of the other crew. We ate at a restaurant called копьасофф, where we had sausage and beer. (I’m not sure how to pronounce the restaurant name, but according to my google search it’s ‘Kolbasoff‘ in English). Although the menu was in English as well as Russian, we still had a difficult time ordering. The food was good, but what we ordered was kind of a surprise with the language barrier! Needless to say, it still hit the spot and I would recommend it to others.
Other than that, I caught up on my rest. There is lots to do in Moscow, Russia but with only 24 hours to spare I needed to sleep!
Next Stop: Toronto, Canada (HOME!!!)
