Appreciate what we have been taking for granted

“We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude” – anonymous

Yesterday, I should have been operating a flight. Instead, I was sitting on my couch, waiting to see if I would be assigned a later duty…I wasn’t.

I’m used to hopping on a plane whenever I want, and now I’m not exactly sure when or where my next layover will be (or if I’d even be able to leave the hotel). I’ve always been thankful for the opportunities I’ve been given, but now more than ever I’m truly realizing how fortunate we all are. Not just “we” as in aircrew being able to travel as much as we have, but “we” as in everyday people, being able to attend the movies, the mall, or a social gathering with friends. These are privileges that we often take for granted. Privileges that will be few and far between over the next few weeks.

To my aviation family, please stay safe and stay positive. There are still many of us operating on the front lines, doing what we can to help travellers get to where they need to be. I hope you know how much we appreciate what you are doing, and I can’t thank you enough for it.

These tough times will pass. Those happy days are just around the corner!
