Layover Life: New York, U.S.A

Ahhh New York. The city that never sleeps! This is my fourth time visiting, and I have to agree with the famous statement “if you’re bored in New York, it’s your own fault”. There is always something to do here!

This time around I was blessed with a 42 hour layover. I had a few errands to run, but other than that I was really set on seeing the city.

When we landed, I headed straight for Times Square. Even though the crew made it to our hotel downtown around 11pm at night, the stores I needed to visit were open until 1am.

The following day, I met with two other Cabin Crew to tour the city. It’s hard to believe that I’ve been to NYC a few times, but never did a “hop-on, hop-off” bus tour. Needless to say it was worth it.

We went all around Manhattan and through downtown Brooklyn, hitting up: the Downtown Loop, Times Square North, Times Square 42, Empire State Building, Korea Town, Flatiron District, Union Square, Greenwich Village/NYC, NOHO, SOHO/Little Italy, Chinatown, World Trade Center/City Hall, Battery Park – State Street, Battery Park – Battery Place, High Line and Madison Square Garden. We even jumped on one of the Statue Cruises boats to get a closer look at the Statue of Liberty.

For dinner, we stopped at one of my favourite restaurants, the Hardrock Cafe in Times Square. It may be a huge tourist trap, but the food and the atmosphere is incredible!

If you go: Brace yourself, the traffic is always bad in the city! New York uses a gridlock system, so when you are bumper to bumper, you better hope your tour guide is a good one with a lot of information to share!
